Liquid-Cooled Computer

Category: Geek & Photo

I still keep in touch with a bunch of my old NASA buddies, even though I haven't worked at the Jet Propulsion Lab for 10 years now. We have an e-mail list where we chat, send jokes, etc. One of the guys sent the below photo around, saying he was going to build one. (Seriously. No, really.) It's a reasonably amusing photo, but the reply to it by one of the guys who still works at JPL is even better:

Computer with working beer tap installed in the front of the case

So Richard from JPL replied to the photo with this:

But you have to be careful: The Windows version has some odd "features":

  • Other drinkers can sneak in the back of the computer and steal your beer, or worse yet, pollute it.
  • Every week you need to put in a new widget to reduce the number of beer thefts.
  • When a new beer comes out, you have to install new software.
  • Sometimes the beer will stop coming out, and then turn bright blue. You can fix this by picking the machine up, pulling on the tap, and rotating the keg (all at the same time).
  • Only one person can use the keg at any given time.
  • If you want a second glass, the machine will ask you, "are you sure?"
  • On the other hand, the Macintosh version works perfectly all the time, but can only dispense about 5% of the available brands of beer.
