A reader pointed me to this newspaper story in the Lodi (Calif.) News-Sentinel, and it's a great example of fine writing -- the first sentence of the story makes you want to keep reading:
The headline doesn't tip its hand to the top-notch writing to follow -- but it at least piques interest:
Say what?
But it's the first sentence that just grabs the reader:
"A jazz musician was injured Friday after jumping from a burning motor home driven by a one-time roller skating stripper from Lodi."
Now that evokes interest!
Unfortunately, the article goes downhill from there, which is why it's "fine writing" and not "great writing". But you can continue reading it (assuming it's still there by the time you read this) at the Lodi News-Sentinel.
