Fred and Ethel Get Engaged

Category: Marriage

Fred and Ethel were neighbors at the Senior Apartments, and had known each other for years.

One evening there was a community supper in a big activity center. Fred and Ethel were seated across from each other and, as the meal went on, he made several advances and finally asked her, "will you marry me?"

After brief consideration, she answsered, "Yes, yes I will." The meal ended with more pleasant exchangess and then they went to their respective homes.

But the next morning, Fred was troubled. Did she say "Yes" or did she say "No"? He couldn't remember.

With trepidation, he went to the telephone and called Ethel.

"This is Fred," he began, feeling a bit embarrassed. He explained that he didn't remember as well as he used to. Then he gained more courage and inquired, "When I asked you to marry me, did you say 'yes' or did you say 'no'?"

He was delighted to hear her say, "why I said yes, and I meant it with all my heart!"

Then, she continued, "And I'm so glad you called, because I couldn't remember who had asked me."
